Raw shrimp prices in Bạc Liêu rise sharply, bringing joy to shrimp farmers

After a long period of remaining at low levels, raw shrimp prices in Bac Lieu Province are showing signs of rising again, bringing joy to shrimp farmers. Currently, the purchasing prices for white-leg shrimp and black tiger shrimp in the locality have increased by 5,000–10,000 VND/kg compared with before.

Specifically, white-leg shrimp in the 30 shrimp/kg size category is being purchased at 185,000–188,000 VND/kg. The 40 shrimp/kg size is priced at 145,000 VND/kg, while 90 shrimp/kg shrimp are being bought at 98,000 VND/kg. At these prices, after deducting production costs, shrimp farmers still earn a fairly high profit. According to industry experts, the shrimp market is showing positive signs of recovery. This is an encouraging signal, opening up great opportunities for shrimp farmers and Bac Lieu’s seafood industry in the coming period.

SHRIMP SEED PRODUCTION AND AQUACULTURE TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

In 2024, Bac Lieu produced more than 38 billion post-larvae of black tiger shrimp and white-leg shrimp, along with 900 million giant freshwater prawn juveniles. This supply of shrimp seed not only fully meets the province’s shrimp farming demand but is also sold to other localities, contributing to increasing the production value of Bac Lieu’s shrimp industry. Local shrimp hatcheries are focusing on selecting and developing broodstock with strong disease resistance, helping improve survival rates and the quality of farmed shrimp.

However, the shrimp farming industry still faces major challenges from polluted water sources and the risk of disease outbreaks. In response to this situation, many facilities have invested in applying advanced technology to their production processes. Modern technologies such as integrated ultrafiltration systems with UV treatment for incoming water are being widely applied, helping improve the quality of shrimp seed.

Bac Lieu currently has more than 20 companies and hatcheries certified as disease-safe. In addition, the province has a system of 360 black tiger shrimp and white-leg shrimp hatchery and nursery facilities, operating on a large scale with modern technology, further affirming its position as the country’s high-quality shrimp seed production center. Bac Lieu currently accounts for more than 50% of shrimp seed output in the Mekong Delta and about 22% of the country’s total shrimp seed production.

With strong development in production technology and shrimp seed quality, Bac Lieu’s shrimp industry not only maintains its leading position but also makes an important contribution to increasing export value and promoting local economic development.
