🔘 According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), information from the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) shows that in the first 9 months of 2022, Vietnam was the third-largest seafood supplier to the U.S. by volume and the fifth-largest by value, reaching 244.4 thousand tons worth USD 1.78 billion, up 14% in volume and 33.1% in value compared with the same period in 2021. Vietnam’s share of total U.S. seafood imports increased from 8.4% in the first 9 months of 2021 to 9.6% in the first 9 months of 2022.
🔘 This year, U.S. seafood imports began to decline from July compared with the same period in 2021. However, due to the sharp increase in import volume in the first 4 months of the year, total U.S. seafood imports in the first 9 months of 2022 still rose 4.9% in volume and 14.2% in value compared with the same period in 2021, reaching 2.59 million tons worth USD 23.6 billion.
🔘 Shrimp is the seafood item with the highest import volume and value in the U.S. In the first 9 months of 2022, U.S. shrimp imports reached 690.2 thousand tons worth USD 7.34 billion, down 0.6% in volume but up 1.8% in value compared with the same period in 2021. Vietnam is also one of the largest shrimp exporters to the U.S.
