QUANG BINH - BIOLOGICAL HILL-RAISED CHICKENS SOLD BY THE BIRD AT HALF A MILLION DONG EACH

In Quang Thach Commune, Quang Trach District (Quang Binh Province), Mr. Nguyen Van Nhi’s hill-raised chicken farming model is attracting attention for its biological, sustainable approach and high-quality products. Each chicken raised under this special process is currently sold at retail for VND 500,000–600,000 per bird, rather than being priced by weight like in conventional farms.

A NEW DIRECTION FROM THE BIOLOGICAL HILL-RAISED CHICKEN MODEL

Starting in 2018, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhi established a hill-raised chicken farming model in the locality. Not long after, he founded Nhi Nguyen Development Co., Ltd., gradually shifting toward biosecure and microbial organic farming to improve product quality while ensuring consumer safety.

What makes the farming process here special is the use of wild ri and local ri chicken breeds—valuable breeds restored and preserved by the National Institute of Animal Husbandry. The chickens are raised freely in a large hillside area and fed fermented feed made from agricultural ingredients such as corn and soybeans combined with fish protein and herbs fermented with yogurt. This homemade biological feed helps balance the gut microbiota, increase resistance, and, most importantly, gives the chicken meat its distinctive delicious flavor.

CHICKENS ARE NOT SOLD BY WEIGHT — THEY ARE SOLD BY QUALITY

Unlike industrial farming models, where chickens are sold after four months of raising, at Nhi Nguyen Company, chickens are raised for about 7–8 months to achieve the best firmness and flavor. Each chicken, after being plucked, cleaned, and vacuum-sealed, is sold for VND 500,000–600,000 per bird.

Mr. Nhi shared: “We do not chase quantity; we focus on quality and safety. This is a direction that suits current consumer trends—prioritizing clean food with clear origins.”

EXPANDING LINKAGES – PRODUCT OFFTAKE GUARANTEE

Currently, in addition to the main farm with a scale of more than 3,000 chickens, Nhi Nguyen Company has also expanded its linked model to around 50 local households. All products from these partner households are purchased by the company at an average price of VND 500,000 per bird, ensuring stable outlets and helping local people earn sustainable income.

The company’s biological hill chicken products have also been packaged and introduced into the clean food market in two main locations: Dong Hoi City (Quang Binh) and Hanoi. In addition, the company has developed a restaurant specializing in dishes made from biological chicken, gradually completing the value chain from production to consumption.

On average, Nhi Nguyen Company consumes more than 2,000 cleaned chickens per month.

MAINTAINING QUALITY – PRIORITIZING COMMUNITY HEALTH

Although the biological chicken model brings stable revenue, Mr. Nhi said the high investment costs and long raising period mean profits are not large. However, he remains steadfast in this direction because he believes it is a model suited to rural conditions, helps develop household economies, and most importantly, provides clean, safe food that is good for community health.
