Vietnam’s livestock industry is entering 2025 with major opportunities and challenges. In the context of deepening global integration and transformation, Vietnam’s livestock sector needs to innovate quickly to keep pace with trends and strengthen its competitiveness.
"THE GOLDEN TIME" FOR TRANSFORMATION
2024 marked the sustainable growth of the livestock industry, with restructuring toward large-scale farms, the adoption of modern technology, and biosecure livestock farming (ATSH). The Livestock Development Strategy for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045, along with priority projects, has created momentum for development and affirmed the industry’s importance in the economy.
2025 OUTLOOK: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
According to the Department of Livestock Production, 2025 will be the final year for Vietnam’s livestock sector to become a commodity-producing industry, aiming to export key products such as meat, eggs, milk, honey, and animal feed (TĂCN). However, the challenges remain significant:
- Control of dangerous diseases.
- The imported meat market is growing rapidly due to lower import tariffs.
- Administrative procedures and livestock and veterinary management still have many shortcomings.
- Competition from FDI enterprises is very strong.
CHAIN LINKAGE - A SOLUTION FOR SUSTAINABLE VALUE ADDED GROWTH
According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Chairman of the Vietnam Livestock Association, the most important solution for Vietnam’s livestock sector in the current context is to strengthen chain linkages. Connecting domestic enterprises and FDI enterprises helps:
- Lower production costs and increase competitiveness.
- Improve quality and food safety.
- Develop export markets.
- Reduce risks caused by climate change and disease outbreaks.
CONCLUSION
2025 will be a crucial period for Vietnam’s livestock industry to proactively transform, grow sustainably, and enhance value. To succeed, businesses and livestock households need to quickly adapt to market changes, strengthen technology adoption, and cooperate along value chains.
