After a long period of falling prices, chicken egg prices in Dong Thap have now risen again, bringing positive signs for poultry farmers.
Specifically, the price of black-boned chicken eggs—a specialty egg with high value—has now surpassed VND 2,300 per egg, compared with VND 1,100–1,300 per egg last month. Other types of industrial chicken eggs have also recorded increases of VND 100–200 per egg. At this price level, farmers can earn a profit of about VND 500 per egg, a marked improvement from the previous loss-making period.
The rise in egg prices is believed to be thanks to effective communication efforts by authorities and the media, helping to dispel false rumors about "fake chicken eggs" and reassuring consumers. In addition, domestic egg production has declined while import demand from neighboring countries has increased, also contributing to the price increase.
Mr. Nguyen Myxso VinaSEC, Deputy Director of Hoang Gia Huy Livestock Trading Co., Ltd. (Luong Hoa Lac Commune, Dong Thap), which currently manages about 32,000 black-boned chickens and partners with 50 other poultry farms to purchase eggs, said: “In the past, when egg prices were low, farmers had to sell off older chickens. Now that the export market has recovered, egg prices have risen again. To ensure egg quality, farmers need to use compound feed from reputable brands, pay attention to nutrition and coop hygiene, and follow vaccination procedures. When risks arise, they should consult a veterinarian for timely handling.”
Dong Thap Province currently has nearly 20 million poultry, with laying hens concentrated in communes such as Luong Hoa Lac, An Thanh Thuy, My Tinh An, Binh Ninh... Previously, egg prices fell while feed and veterinary medicine costs rose sharply, causing many farmers to suffer losses. Now that the market is gradually stabilizing, farmers are actively rebuilding their flocks while applying biosecurity measures and disease prevention to maintain long-term production efficiency.
