Since the beginning of 2025, the situation of disease outbreaks among livestock and poultry in Long An Province has become increasingly complicated. Several dangerous diseases have emerged, such as African swine fever, avian influenza, and rabies, affecting the health of animals and the concerns of livestock farmers. In response, the province’s agricultural sector, in coordination with local authorities, has actively implemented many measures to control and prevent the spread of disease.
According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Long An Province, in the first quarter of 2025, disease prevention and vaccination efforts—especially rabies vaccination—were given close attention. As a result, most outbreaks were detected early and handled promptly, preventing them from spreading widely.
Specifically, African swine fever was recorded in 16 livestock households across 12 communes in 7 districts, with a total of 509 pigs culled, equivalent to 24,982.6 kg. Avian influenza occurred at one livestock household in Chau Thanh District, forcing the culling of 2,200 chickens. Meanwhile, rabies occurred only in a single case at one household in Moc Hoa District, involving one infected dog.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, a livestock farmer in Phuoc Tuy Commune, Can Duoc District, shared: “In recent years, outbreaks have kept appearing, making us very worried. However, thanks to the dedicated guidance of veterinary কর্মকর্তারা on vaccination techniques and barn care, my family’s livestock has remained safe. I hope the province will continue to provide timely support policies so that people can restock with confidence when disease outbreaks occur.”
Ms. Le Thi Mai Khanh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: “Unstable weather, with large temperature differences between day and night, creates ideal conditions for pathogens to emerge and spread. We advise people not to conceal outbreaks, not to sell off sick livestock or poultry, and absolutely not to dump dead animal carcasses into the environment. The livestock sector will continue to coordinate with local authorities to inspect, monitor, and provide timely support to affected cases.”
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the relevant authorities and local residents, disease prevention and control in Long An Province is expected to achieve many positive results, contributing to the protection of livestock and the sustainable development of the livestock industry.
